Forest Bathing Session
A two-hour guided walk through the woodland with a trained practitioner. We move slowly, pause often, and end with a warm drink at the pond. Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
Horsham · West Sussex · Est. 2012
Forest bathing in restored native woodland.
Two hours in a woodland reduces cortisol, lowers blood pressure,
and calms the nervous system. This is not folklore.
It is documented science, first studied in Japan in the 1980s
and replicated by researchers across the world.
Into Amber offers small, guided forest bathing sessions in a
twelve-acre restored native woodland near Horsham.
The wood has been in restoration for twelve years. More than
one hundred volunteers have planted over three thousand five
hundred native trees, deepened the pond, and opened the
track network to wheelchair users.
It is not a managed park. It is a living woodland with its
own ecology, its own archaeology, and its own particular
quality of light.

Birch sap tapping workshops in late February, bluebell immersions in late April. Eight weeks, two of the rarest experiences the English woodland offers. Waiting list opens each January.
Half-day and full-day woodland retreats for teams of up to sixteen. Fifty-five minutes from London Bridge. Fully wheelchair accessible. Catering on site.
Monthly access to Amber Wood for self-guided visits, with priority booking for all guided sessions. We limit membership to forty people to keep each visit quiet.
Horsham is served by direct trains from London Bridge and Victoria. The woodland is a short taxi ride from the station.
Spring arrives early at Amber Wood. By late February the silver birch sap is moving. By late April the floor of the lower woodland is blue. We run our most sought-after sessions across these eight weeks. Places are limited each year and are released to our waiting list first.
Late February · 3 to 4 weeks
Tap a silver birch, taste the sap fresh from the bark, and hear the history of the Lady of the Woods. 2.5 hours. Up to 8 guests.
£110 per personLate April · 2 to 3 weeks
Native English bluebells on an ancient track. Morning sessions and dawn sessions as the light is low and the scent is at its strongest.
From £95 per personA full-day course in folklore, medicine, and making. One tree. Eight hours. The bark that stops bleeding, the sap that feeds a forest, the fungus Ötzi the Iceman carried 5,300 years ago.
Learn to read the silver birch: its lenticels, its diamond bark, its pioneer ecology. Explore the tree's deep human history, from its role as the Celtic "Lady of the Woods" and the Norse cosmic sky ladder to the birch polypore and bark containers found on Ötzi the Iceman at the Austrian-Italian border in 1991.
Tap your own tree using the sustainable twig method that protects the trunk. Taste fresh sap. Then work through the full birch pharmacy: leaves, inner bark, birch polypore, and chaga. Make birch leaf tea and learn to prepare infusions, decoctions, and tinctures to take home and use.
Watch a demonstration of birch tar extraction. Handle the products: white silver birch essential oil, birch tar oil, birch soap. Learn about betulinic acid, the compound in the outer bark now under active research as an anti-cancer agent. Leave knowing what this tree can do.
"I had forgotten what silence felt like. I booked a second session before I was back at the station."
A.T. · London, management consultant
"We brought the whole team. The combination of the walk and the bread oven afterwards was unlike any team day we have done."
D.M. · London, design studio director
"I use a wheelchair. Most nature experiences simply do not include me. Into Amber did, without any fuss."
